Deadly suicide bomb blast in Kabul kills 12, 47 others injured

The Afghan Interior Ministry says that a suicide car bomb in the capital Kabul has killed at least 12 civilians, and injured 47 others.

Targeting a convey of NATO-led troops, the blast occurred nearby government buildings. Six foreign soldiers, including five U.S. troops, are also reported to have been killed in the attack. Taliban militants have claimed responsibility. Last week, they announced they would launch a spring offensive against the government and foreign troops in the country. Afghan President Karzai has condemned the attack. He has just returned from a trip to Washington where he met US President Barack Obama.
