The Shanghai World Expo has recorded the largest daily number of visitors of more than half a million since its opening on May 1st.

A report on the Expo's official website says the number of visitors reached 290,000 by 10:30am Saturday and rose to 503,600 by 8:30 pm.

Organizers attribute the sharp increase of visitors to the end of consecutive rainy days leading into the weekend. The Australia and Thailand pavilions have postponed their closing hours. Many other pavilions are issuing reservations to shorten the queue time.

The Expo Site has increased temporary sun shelters, chairs and drinks services. Organizers say they will also increase the number of staff and volunteers to cope with the increase in visitors.
