The level of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, has risen to more than 38 meters, two meters above its danger level and a record high.
Continuing heavy rainfall has also raised other rivers in the province including the Juanshui and Lianshui above their danger levels. Flood control offices around the province have recorded the daily rainfall of more than 100 millimeters. Local authorities have launched a level-one emergency response plan. More than 50,000 residents in areas at risk have been evacuated and relocated.
