More than 300 workers and soldiers have begun to shore up two breached river dykes in Jiangxi Province.

A senior officer from the hydropower engineering force of the armed police says they have filled in the breaches with 800 cubic meters of rocks and sand.

He also says they hope to fix them completely within six days. One hundred thousand people were forced to evacuate their homes when the dykes were breached earlier this week.

The municipal civil affairs bureau has distributed rice and drinking water, as well as other basic necessities to the flood victims.

He Zhiming, Villager of Flooded Jiangxi, said, "Our paddy fields are flooded. We are left with no crops this year. We can only rely on aid from the government, or else we will have nothing to eat."
