Mainland, Taiwan negotiators to hold fifth talks on June 29

06-28-2010 15:30 BJT

A delegation led by the chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation Chiang Pin-kung has arrived in Chongqing Municipality. It's for the 5th round of talks with the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits.

The talks will be held on Tuesday, with the much-anticipated Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, or ECFA, and an agreement on intellectual property protection likely to be signed.

In a news conference in Taipei on Sunday, Chiang said that the ECFA signing would profoundly influence Taiwan's economy, particularly in trade and investment, as well as the development of relations between Taiwan and the mainland. He said he expects a positive change of Taiwan's economic development mode after the signing of ECFA.
