New Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, says population growth must be sustainable, and not simply aimed at creating a "big Australia". That was former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's immigrant policy.
The country announced a new occupation list in May that will come into effect Thursday. The new list decreases recognized occupations for immigrants from 480 to only 181.
Deletions include: marketing specialist, interpreter and translator, chef, baker, hair dresser and printing machinists, all which are popular among Chinese immigrants.
