Afghan forces backed by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force have killed 31 Taliban militants during operations and airstrikes. The forces also captured the Taliban shadow district governor in their Helmand stronghold. During the four-hour firefight, insurgents tried to use improvised explosive devices against the security forces.
No civilians, Afghan or international service members were injured. Meanwhile on Wednesday, NATO and Afghan troops killed several insurgents outside a NATO airbase in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad after an attempted attack. An Afghan soldier and a foreigner were wounded.
