German shoppers have started spending again as retail sales posted their first monthly rise in May. It's early days but there are hopes that consumer spending may
stabilize on the back of a labour market recovery in Europe's largest economy. The German Bundesbank raised its growth forecasts last month, and German companies are also
stepping up output and increasing their workforce. German unemployment fell for the 12th month running in June to its lowest level since December 2008.
