Hurricane Alex has caused severe flooding, and forced thousands to flee coastal villages in northern Mexico before weakening to a tropical storm. Alex made landfall on Wednesday night on a sparsely populated stretch of Mexico's coastline.
The town of Soto La Marina took a direct hit. By Thursday morning, rain was still streaming down while wind- whipped trees and knocked over power poles. At least 25-hundred people were forced into shelters after their homes were flooded. There were no immediate reports of death or injuries in the Mata-moros area.
