Uruguay beat Ghana 5-3, through to semis

Uruguay ended Ghana's dream of being the first African team in the World Cup semi-finals when they won a penalty shootout 4-2.

The dramatic results came after their quarter-final finished 1-1 at the end of extra time on Friday.

Ghana led in first-half stoppage time with a long-range strike. Sulley Muntari's 35-meter left-foot shot bounced beyond Fernando Muslera's dive.

Diego Forlan scored in the 55th minute from a free kick to help Uruguay level the score and send the match into extra time.

Uruguay and Ghana went to penalties with a 1-1 draw in extra time. Uruguay beat Ghana in penalties and will meet Netherlands in the semifinals.
