Now let's examine Komorowski's profile.

Komorowski was born in 1952 in south Poland. He graduated from the University of Warsaw with a history degree in 1977.

Since 1991, Komorowski has been serving as a member of parliament. He was defense minister from 2000 to 2001, deputy speaker of parliament's lower house from 2005 to 2007.

He has been parliament speaker since November 2007. In accordance with the Constitution, Komorowski took on the duties of acting president after President Lech Kaczynski was killed in an air crash in April.

He is regarded as a center-right politician eager to push for political unity and a greater Polish presence in the EU.
