South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has accepted the resignation offer of Prime Minister Chung Un-chan, according to an official from the chief executive's office in Seoul.
Lee will also reshuffle his cabinet before the end of this month. Several ministers are expected to be replaced.
Chung expressed his intention to step down during a one-on-one meeting with the President, even though Lee urged him to stay in office.
Analysts say his move is aimed at taking responsibility for a failure to gain Parliamentary approval for the administration's Sejong Revision Bill.
