On update on Typhoon Conson. The deadly storm is heading towards south China's Hainan Province.
It is expected to make landfall between the city of Sanya and Wanning late Friday. There is a chance it could veer to the west and avoid directly hitting the area.
Conson was about 260 kilometers southeast of Sanya at 5 am Beijing time. It is moving northwest at about 20 kilometers per hour. Winds near the eye of the storm were clocked at 119 kilometers per hour. Light rain is falling on Hainan as a result of weather system.
Authorities dispatched relief workers in preparation for the storm and ordered thousands of boats to dock.
The National Meteorological Center also issued an orange alert for the typhoon, which is the second highest level. Those areas covered by the alert should prepare against flooding and possible landslides.
