On the third day of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his counterparts from ten member states of the ASEAN discussed measures to promote regional cooperation.
The meeting is among a series of important discussions being held this week in Hanoi between ASEAN and its partners. The ASEAN Plus One mechanism was set up with the aim of promoting economic cooperation in the region. Its agenda has been extended to politics, security and cultural integration over the past few years. The ASEAN Plus One meeting has confirmed five major cooperation fields, which focus on agriculture, communication, exploration of the labor force, bilateral investment and the Mekong Basin development.
ASEAN was founded in 1967 and currently comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Vietnam has assumed the rotating Chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
