German police say that 17 people have been killed and 80 others seriously injured after panic broke out at a "Love Parade" music festival in the western city of Duisburg.
The techno music festival was being held at a former freight rail depot when overcrowding at an entrance gate sparked a stampede. Ambulances rushed to pick up victims and police set up an emergency first aid station at the scene. About 1.4 million people are attending this year's event, which has been held annually since 1989.
