Premier Wen inspects Jilin, overseeing flood prevention and control efforts

Premier Wen Jiabao has visited Northeast China's Jilin Province, overseeing flood prevention and control efforts. The Premier toured the hardest-hit areas, and inspected emergency shelters.

During his inspection tour, Premier Wen Jiabao asked Party Committees and governments at all levels to make flood control and prevention work the first priority. He said the work is essential to the safety of people's lives and property, and the country's economic development.

Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier, said, "We will face yet another round of torrential rains and flooding. We must be well prepared. Without delay, we will reinforce dykes and dams, to ensure the safety of people's lives."

Premier Wen expressed his deepest condolences to the officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against the floods. He said they will always be remembered in people's hearts.

Wen Jiabao visited an emergency shelter in Yongji County. He asked the local government to do its best to help displaced victims.

"We still have 2 or 3 months before winter arrives. Please trust us. We will provide houses for every family." Premier Wen said.

On Tuesday evening, Premier Wen presided over a meeting in Jilin city. He put forward requirements about the current flood relief work, including implementing flood control measures. He says the government will do its upmost to protect people's safety, and facilitate a good agricultural harvest this year.
