Rain is continuing to batter southwest Sichuan province, causing damage and upheaval.

In Mianzhu, a rain-triggered landslide blocked the Mianyuan river and formed a ten-kilometer-long barrier lake. Several temporary bridges have been washed away.

This is the only bridge connecting people in Qingping county with the outside world.

Now a dozen of them are stranded. Some are brave enough to cross barefoot but not all of them have such good luck.

villager, said, "There is a rope up there. At the beginning, we crossed the river by stretching the rope. But a guy with a bag on his back fell into the water."

Firefighters rushed to the site and successfully helped him get out. Then they tried several times to set up a ladder across the river but failed as it wasn't long enough.

Firefighter, said, "The torrent is rapid, but the ladder is not wide enough for people passing by. Now we've fixed a solid rope in the middle. And one of my colleagues has been across to the other side to help them one by one."

After two hours, the stranded villagers were evacuated to safer areas. The water level of the barrier lake is now falling. The local government has told stranded villagers to stay at home and not cross the river in case of any more accidents.
