Casualties have risen in landslide-hit Zhouqu County, in Northwest China's Gansu Province after heavy downpours triggered landslides and mud-rock flows on Sunday morning.

Nearly 130 people have been confirmed dead so far. 117 others have been injured, 29 seriously. Nearly 13-hundred remain missing. Over 12-hundred people have been rescued. The mudslide damaged over 55-hundred houses, and immersed nearly 21,000 houses.

Provincial authorities have sent 320 medical personnel to the disaster area. They are treating wounded people, preventing the spread of diseases and insuring food and water safety.

Rescuers are searching for survivors as workers are struggling to repair roads in and out the county seat. The operations have been hindered by the flood water, which is up to four meters deep in some parts of the streets.
