Rescuers are continuing to drain the mudslide-formed barrier lake in Zhouqu County.

So far rescuers have blasted away debris that is damming Bailong River in the county several times. The lake has two parts. Rescuers are working on clearing the blockage between the higher and the lower section. The water level in both parts of the lake is receding gradually as the outflow is larger than the inflow.

Rescuer said, "The water level receded 50 centimeters after yesterday's pair of blasts. It did not make a huge difference. So we decided to blast seven or eight times today to increase the drainage of the upper lake."
