UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday extended his deepest condolences to the government and people of China over the loss of life and devastation caused by the severe mudslide in northwestern China.
Martin Nesirky, UN Secretary General Spokesman, said, "Secretary General is saddend by the loss of lives and devastation caused by the severe flooding that affected a consideralbe portions of China. He extends his deepest condolences to the families of those who have died or being injured or lost their homes and possessions. The Scretary General is aware of the tremendous efforts being undertaken by the government of China to evacuate people out of harmed way, to carry out search and rescue operations and to respond to needs arising from the situation. He reaffirms committment of the United Nations to assist any way in this effort should it be required."
