Local authorities say an overnight downpour has brought new disruption to Zhouqu, leaving three people missing.
The downpour triggered floods and mudslides. The three people disappeared when their homes were swept away. The mudslides also formed a blockage on the river, raising the water level.
Another mudslide blocked a major "lifeline", a road used to bring relief goods into the town. Gansu provincial weather station forecasts more rain in the coming days. Authorities also say there are nine potential geological danger sites in the county, and have outlined routes to evacuate people to safer areas.
