Meanwhile, in Zhouqu's neighboring regions, floods have left nine people dead and nine others missing in Longnan City.

Downpours triggered floods in three counties, including Chengxian, Lixian and Xihe. Evacuated residents are battling scarce food and drinking water supplies, and cannot move due to the floods.

Three thousand people were trapped in a mining area, but are in no immediate danger. The water level at a major river in Chengxian continues rising. The floods submerged three arches of a bridge over the river, threatening the safety of nearby residents. Heavier downpours are forecast over the next 24 hours.
