Raging wildfires have destroyed dozens of homes and crops in central Brazil. Firefighters managed to control fires that ravaged parts of the Amazon rainforest in the state of Mato Grosso.
Nearly 100 homes, 25 lumber mills and crops have been destroyed since Wednesday morning. Civil defense officials have not revealed the extent of the destruction and are still assessing the damage. Over 200 people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. Officials deployed more equipment and manpower to the region on Thursday in a bid to tackle the blazes. No deaths have been reported.
