The Moscow Riot Police, or OMON, have delivered aid to victims of the devastating fires in the Ryazan Region, located about 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow.

Together with the Russian Orthodox Church, OMON organized the collection of food, clothing, blankets, and other supplies.

The Emergency Situations Ministry says the area engulfed by blazes near the capital has shrunk by more than a quarter over the past 24 hours.

Firefighters have also managed to significantly reduce the size of infernos in other parts of the country. This has been the hottest summer ever recorded in Russia, with temperatures in Moscow topping 37.8 degrees Celsius for the first time.
