Political parties in India also celebrated the country's 63rd anniversary of independence.
Top leaders of the ruling Congress Party, including bloc chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gathered at their headquarters in New Delhi, to observe the occasion on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the country's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, hoisted the flag in the western city of Nagpur.
India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15th to commemorate its 1947 independence from British rule, and birth as a sovereign nation. Additional flag-raising ceremonies were conducted by local administrations all over the country.
