Tens of thousands of people in northwest Russia were left without electricity when a storm ripped through the region.
Residents in 15-hundred towns and villages in the vicinity of Saint Petersburg were affected. The same cold front was expected to hit the Moscow region on Monday, bringing heavy rains and cooler temperatures.
A summer heat wave - unprecedented in 130 years of record keeping - has sparked thousands of fires, mostly in western Russia. There were five-hundred blazes still burning, but the total size of the fires was down 15 percent in the last 24 hours.
