Romania is expelling a Russian diplomat in a move seen as retaliation for Moscow's arrest of a senior Romanian diplomat accused of spying.
The diplomatic rank of the Russian is equivalent to that of Romanian Gabriel Grecu. He was detained on Monday after Russian investigators say he was caught trying to get military intelligence.
Moscow says Grecu is a professional intelligence officer working for his country's External Information Service. He was later given 48 hours to leave the country.
Romania immediately condemned the detention of Grecu.
