The mudslide caused severe damage to Zhouqu County's water supply distribution system. After days of intensive work, more than sixty thousand residents now have their basic needs for water satisfied.
Now, the local government is working hard to resume more stable water supply.
Water pipes have been installed at every village and every community in the Zhouqu county-seat. Fresh water is being channeled in from neighboring Sanyanyu valley.
Caizhi, Vice Governor, Gannan Tibetan Atonomous Prefecture, said, "We already have 53 water supply stations like this around the county. We inspect the water quality at all these stations. If the water does not meet the quality standards, we channel it through water purifying equipment like this. After processing, water from this big container is drinkable. "
The water supply stations are distributed evenly among the county-seat's communities, separated by only a few hundred meters. Residents can easily reach them.
A Zhouqu county resident said, "It has been very convenient these days. There are a lot of water supply stations around."
The local government is currently digging a second pumped well to guarantee water supply. Ten water trucks have been providing water to residents at the eastern and western end of the county town on a regular schedule.
Meanwhile, the local urban construction department is working around the clock to repair the water supply trunk network.
