Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee says security forces in the North Caucasus province of Dagestan have killed a major organizer of the Moscow metro bombings.
An official with the committee says the body of Magomed-Ali Vagabov was found in the wreckage of a house stormed by security forces. Four other suspected militants were also killed in fighting.
Russian authorities say Vagabov was a mastermind of the March 29th morning rush-hour bombings in Moscow that killed 40 people. He was also active in recruiting young people to join militants and in training suicide bombers.
The mostly Muslim North Caucasus on Russia's southern flank has been plagued by an Islamic insurgency stemming from separatist wars in the 1990s.
