Volunteers and wildlife workers have managed to save at least 11 of more than 50 whales stranded on a New Zealand beach.
Volunteers rushed to save the surviving members of a pod of pilot whales discovered on Kaitaia Beach Friday. About 40 volunteers, with the help of heavy machinery, managed to move some of the surviving whales back to calmer waters almost one kilometer away. Some of the refloated whales seemed in good condition, but some seemed to have difficulties.
