Dalian has staged the Northeast Regional Final of the Global Chinese Carnival. The aim of the event is to select international masters of the Chinese language for China Radio International. Eventually, 10 finalists were able to show off their skill and talent.

From 124 competitors, ten were left to showcase their skills. They came from 8 different countries. The final competition consists of three parts, self-introduction, a talent show and a Q&A. At the beginning of the activity, audiences are entertained by contestants' interesting and funny introductions. This contestant introduced himself through song.

"My name is Fred from France, and I'm Dalianese. I like China. My band gives tour performances sometimes, and I am glad to take part in the activity."

This contestant used Dalian dialect to begin.

"I'm feeling nervous, so could you please clap your hands to cheer me up?"

This girl came to China to consume the local cuisine.

"I come to China mainly because I like Chinese fried rice and I can have it here everyday."

A ten-year-old girl from Japan wearing a kimono, revealed her innocence. Her excellent Putonghua, or Standard Chinese, impressed the audience.

"My mom tells me I utter English and Chinese in my sleep, but I never do that in Japanese."

The contestants sang, performed street dances, and even cross-talked as their talents. One contestant from Holland displayed his talent, but was not satisfied with his performance.

There are five regional finals of the Global Chinese Carnival throughout China. Besides Dalian, the other events are held in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Shenzhen. The top five contestants in each region qualify for the national final in Beijing on September 28th. The champion will have the opportunity to become a radio host on China Radio International.
