A suicide car bomber has attacked a police station in Baghdad, killing at least 11 people and wounding 38 others.

An Iraqi Interior Ministry source says the attack happened in the city's northern Qahira district. The police station and surrounding houses were severely damaged.

At least three explosions were heard rocking Baghdad early on Wednesday, but there are no reports of casualties in the other two.

Iraq is on high alert for insurgent attacks after an inconclusive March election produced no clear winner. It left the country adrift in political uncertainty as U.S. troops prepare to end combat operations on August 31st.
