Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has announced he'll run for re-election next year. He's seeking to extend a presidency that began in 1986.
Museveni will also seek election as chairman of his National Resistance Movement party, during its national conference in mid-September. He asked a crowd in western Uganda, on Sunday to support him in both races.
His decision, has confirmed what many in the east African country, have already been expecting.
The early years of his presidency drew wide praise from the West and effusive support from Ugandans, for its respect for the civilian population, prudent and liberal economic management and commitment to the rule of law.
