Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has set out the principles for the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks at his cabinet meeting in Jerusalem before heading to Washington for direct peace talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Israeli-Palestinian peace talks will be hosted by US President Barack Obama.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, said, "Tuesday I will go to Washington to start direct talks between us and the Palestinians. We insist these talks take place without preconditions and this is the way it shall be. Our intention is to seriously promote a responsible peace agreement which will be based on the following principles: first the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, ending the conflict, and establishing security agreements to guarantee what happened in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip will not happen in the West Bank."
