With the joint impact of three tropical storms--Lionrock, Kompasu and Namtheum--the heaviest typhoon rains this year are expected to hit Southeast China's coastal areas. Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces are working around the clock to prepare for possible disruption.
The sixth tropical storm this year, Lionrock is expected to hit Guangdong province. Local authorities have initiated a third-grade typhoon control emergency response. In the eastern part of the province, a higher second-grade response has been raised. Maritime authorities have ordered more than 2,000 vessels in waters along the eastern Guangdong seaboard and Pearl River estuary to take shelter.
Zhang Xianping, Dep. Chief, Guangdong Maritime Bureau, said, "We have cleared all the anti-typhoon anchor stations. All the ships, including construction shipping have returned to the stations."
Fujian province is threatened by all the three typhoons. Authorities at all levels are on standby for the storms. Waves, two to three meters, high have hit Doshan Island in the southern part of the province.
Local authorities have ordered all fishing boats back to harbor. A special team has been formed to inspect and reinforce sea walls.
