In a symbolic gesture, Jewish settlers in the West Bank have gathered in a few locations and "launched" new construction.
The move follows an announcement from the Yesha Council, which represents the settlers, that it would unilaterally resume construction in West Bank settlements Wednesday evening.
The announcement came in response to the shooting Tuesday of four Israelis who were travelling near the West Bank city of Hebron.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is now in the US preparing for direct peace talk with Palestinians said his government would not extend the moratorium on settlement building in the West Bank, and urged "restraint" by all parties.
