A few days before he left for Beijing, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said he hoped the visit could help boost bilateral cooperation in more fields.
The Ukrainian president said his government is ready to bring ties with China to a higher level.
He pointed out that great potential exists for the two countries to work together more closely.
He added that the most promising areas for bilateral cooperation include infrastructure, trade and investment, aviation, rail transportation, energy, tourism, cultural exchange and education, He emphasized his high hopes for the visit.
Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych said, "I think my visit to China will help usher in a new phase in bilateral relations and upgrade the ties to a new strategic level."
The president said Ukraine exports more than 60 percent of its products. But most of these products are from labor-intensive industries. He said closer trade ties with China will help Ukraine process raw materials through more advanced technology to increase the added value of the products.
Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych said, "China's economy is developing rapidly. It has become one of the engines for global economic development. We hope China can become a good partner to help safeguard our interests in the global market. It's a priority in our foreign policy to continually deepen ties with China. It's in line with Ukraine's national interests."
The President stressed Ukraine has been adhering to the one-China policy and supports China in upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On the global stage, Ukraine is willing to enhance its coordination with China to deal with many global challenges. These priorities include the aftermath of financial crisis, the recovery of the world economy and climate change.
