Russian cosmonauts and NASA astronauts have gathered with relatives in Russia's Star City before flying to neighboring Kazakhstan.

The astronauts will blast off from the Baikonur launch facility bound for the International Space Station.

The crew have been at the training center in Star City in the run up to their launch on October 8th in a newly renovated Russian Soyuz TMA-01M capsule.

The new Soyuz will feature an updated computer and a telemetry system. Earlier on Saturday a Soyuz capsule carrying three astronauts back from a six-month mission on the International Space Station touched down safely in Kazakhstan.

The homecoming of the three had been delayed after technical glitches hindered the un-docking of the spacecraft.

Scott Kelly, NASA Flight Engineer, said, "It is really a testament how well the technical experts on the ground and the crew can work together to solve problems. You know, there is a problem and they fixed it and now they are home safe."
