After days of intensive repair efforts, power and communication has resumed in most parts of Maoming region in south China's Guangdong Province. The area was badly hit by floods last Tuesday. Meanwhile, the government of Xinyi city in the region has issued provisional resettlement measures.

In Xinyi city alone, over twelve thousand workers struggled to repair the power system. The power supply has resumed in almost every area of Maoming except a few remote, mountainous villages.

Chen Yuhui, director of Xinyi Grid, said, "We carried out our repair mission under very difficult conditions. Many roads were blocked, and communication was constantly interrupted. On several occasions we had to carry 150-kilogram voltage changers with our bare hands for 2 or 3 kilometers. "

The severe floods last Tuesday also destroyed many drinking water pipes in Xinyi city. The local fire department sent trucks to transport water for residents.

Li Deliang, firefighter of Xinyi Fire Department, said, "We transport water 10 times a day to ensure water supply for these two blocks."

The Xinyi government has issued provisional measures for resettlement. Each disaster-hit resident can receive half a kilo of rice and 10 yuan every day. Epidemic prevention and reconstruction efforts are also underway.
