Chang'e 2's flight schedule

10-01-2010 16:22 BJT Special Report: Chang’e 2- Journey to the Moon |

The Chang'e 2 lunar probe's flight is divided into three phases; the launch, the moon-orientation phase, and moon orbiting phase.

The first phase sees the launch vehicle carrying the satellite into the moon-orientation orbit. There, the satellite's solar wing and antennas will unfold. And the monitoring cameras on the probe will capture these movements. The probe will also acquire information about the space environment. After some 120 hours of flight, the satellite will be close enough to the moon to be captured by its gravity.

It will reduce its speed and enter the lunar orbit. Then the probe will reduce its speed again to enter orbit 100 kilometers above the moon surface. There, the probe will take high resolution pictures of the Bay of Rainbows, which is the planned landing spot for Chang'e 3.
