It appeared to be business as usual in Paris on Friday, with tourists flocking to the main sites such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe.

But a leading official is warning that the main impact is likely to be on domestic tourism, with November holidays due to begin shortly.

Rick Cornell, Tourist from Chicaco, said, "It was a little off-putting at first, we were a little concerned. But actually we've only had one delay and that was out at Versailles and it was a couple of hour delay - we got into the Palace, but no other problems."

Paul Roll, Managing Director, Paris Tourist Boart, said, "Well local visitors are the last ones who decide to come, so obviously if the situation does not change, it will have an impact during the early November holidays. At the same time the economic impact of the French visitors is less important than overseas travellers, because very often they stay with family and friends."
