China has refuted a report saying it's agreed to resume negotiations with Japan on the exploration of oil and gas fields in the East China Sea, saying the report is inconsistent with the facts.

In a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Japanese counterpart Seiji Maehara, Yang urged Japan to go in the same direction as China. He called for sound atmosphere and conditions for the two sides to implement the principles on the issue of the East China Sea. The two foreign ministers held a half-hour meeting on the sidelines of a series of summits between the ASEAN and its partners in Hanoi.
