Welcome reception held for G20 leaders

Leaders from around the world gathered in Seoul for the 5th G20 Summit. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak is holding a welcoming reception in the country's national museum.

During the summit, G20 leaders are expected to address the continuing challenge of the ongoing global economic recovery, and pave the way for future sustainable and balanced growth.

G20 leaders are gathering to discuss the global economy.

The summit opened with a welcome reception by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak at the National Museum of Korea.

Some 140 people, including heads of state, representatives from international organizations, and finance ministers attended the reception.

The G20 leaders will begin official sessions on Friday. The theme of the discussions will be "Shared Growth Beyond Crisis".

Issues high on the agenda include IMF reform, the establishment of financial safety nets, global imbalances, and cooperation on currency exchange rates.

G20 leaders are looking to take necessary steps in safeguarding the global economic recovery, and creating balanced and sustainable growth going forward.

The group of 20 was established in 1999, and brought together important industrialized and developing economies to discuss key issues concerning the global economy.

The G20 has emerged as the main mechanism of global economic governance, since the start of the international financial crisis two years ago.
