CCTV's English news channel has won a prize at the Hot Bird TV awards. This is the second time the channel achieved such an honor.

More than 150 TV channels from more than 20 countries gathered on Friday in Italy's city on water - Venice, for the ceremony.

CCTV's English news channel won the National Window Award, after competing with Russia's Channel 1 and Spain's TVE channel.

China's ambassador in Italy voiced his congratulations to CCTV NEWS for receiving the honor.

Ding Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Italy, said, "It is a milestone event that CCTV should be congratulated for in its steps towards reaching the world. With the development of China, more people want to know about the country. CCTV can play a major role in enhancing people's understanding of China, especially those in western countries."

With a mission of becoming a link of the international audience to Asia, the 24-hour CCTV NEWS channel not only reports what happens in China, but also the major news events that shape Asia and developing countries, drawing the world closer to China, and Asia as a whole.

Last year, CCTV's English news channel won the Eutelsat Special Awards for its innovation in program production and arrangement, as well as its introduction and promotion of China to the world.

The annual Hot Birds awards were first established in 1998 by Eutelsat, a satellite broadcast operator. The awards feature 12 categories covering news, documentary, sports and music.
