A senior European Union official said on Wednesday that the EU will not bring the issue of Carbon tariff to the Cancun climate change conference.

But Jos Delbeke, Director General of climate action for the European Commission, also stressed that if nations do not take concrete actions to cut emissions at the conference, the EU will be under increasing pressure to impose such a tariff.

At a seminar on Wednesday, Climate experts from EU states were pessimistic about the results of the conference. The experts said that although climate changes in recent years have deepened people's awareness of their impact on the survival of human beings, many countries are still responsible for the deterioration of climate, and a comprehensive agreement have not been achieved.

Jos Delbeke said the European Commission will actively promote a multilateral package of agreements at the Cancun Conference. He also said there is huge potential for China and the EU to carry cooperation in the field of energy saving and emissions cuts.
