China urges restraint between DPRK, ROK

China is urging "calm and restraint" on the Korean peninsula and for the two sides to engage in talks as soon as possible, to avoid an escalation of tensions.

Hong Lei, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, says China is worried about the situation after the deadly exchange of fire between the DPRK and ROK. He added that China pays great attention to the event, and feels grieved and regretful about the casualties and property losses.

The spokesman pointed out that China opposes any actions harmful to peace and stability of the the Korean peninsula, and has continuously upheld that all relative parties should resolve conflicts through dialogue and negotiations in a peaceful way. He also expressed that China is willing to strive for that goal with all relative parties.
