Envoys from the International Atomic Energy Agency have departed Vienna for Tehran, to visit nuclear sites in Iran. Seven delegates will be accompanied by Iran's ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh during the visit.

Soltanieh said they would visit Iran's central Natanz enrichment facility and its still-unfinished heavy water reactor at Arak.

On Jan. 4, Iran invited ambassadors from Russia, China, the European Union and other delegates, to visit its nuclear sites ahead of talks on its nuclear program, scheduled to take place later this month in Istanbul.

The EU turned down Tehran's invitation, saying that it was the IAEA's role to inspect Iran's nuclear facilities.

Iran has reiterated that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes despite accusations from Western countries that the Islamic state is close to building a nuclear bomb.
