In a few hours, the White House will put on a show of pomp for visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao. A high-profile welcome ceremony is set to take place on the White House's South Lawn, before formal talks take place between the top leaders of the two countries.

President Hu Jintao arrived in Washington on Tuesday for what may be the most important event in China-US relations in three decades. Shortly after his arrival, he was hosted by Obama for a private dinner.

President Hu Jintao was hosted by US President Barack Obama with a reception, shortly after his arrival in Washington.

It was a high-profile welcome, and a solid start to the Chinese leader's four-day visit to the US.

Both leaders give a positive evaluation on the improvements in Sino-US ties, and are willing to push them further.

President Hu Jintao says the purpose of his visit is to intensify mutual trust between the two nations, promote cooperation and effective coordination over major international and regional issues.
