Foreign governments have stepped up their warnings about travel to Egypt, with several urging their nationals to leave as soon as possible.

The American, Swiss, Turkish and Dutch governments have issued advisories encouraging nationals already in the country to leave and telling those planning trips to Egypt to reconsider.

A growing number of governments including China are warning against travel to most parts, if not all of Egypt.

Governments started arranging planes on Sunday to bring home citizens stuck in the country. Private tour groups and companies also began trying to evacuate their clients and expatriate employees.

Hundreds of passengers were still stranded at Cairo international airport Sunday as dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed.
