Climber survives 300m mountain fall

01-31-2011 19:34 BJT

A man in Scotland has quite a story to tell after surviving a fall of more than 300 meters while climbing a mountain. He was in the vicinity of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, when he lost his footing and plummeted down a near-vertical slope.

Thirty five year old Adam Potter is a very lucky man. After being found alive by an amazed Royal Navy helicopter crew, Potter explained that he initially failed to realize how much danger there was because he was falling between cliffs so fast he couldn't see what was coming next. Rescuers found Potter standing up reading a map when they arrived.

Adam Potter, Rescued Climber, said, "I'm extremely, extremely lucky. I'm very lucky that I didn't injure myself more than what I have. I'm extremely lucky that the mountain rescue helicopter, well it was actually the Navy, happened to be in the area on a training exercise anyway, so they got to us really quickly also."

Potter is now recovering in hospital in Glasgow.
